Insulin is a hormone secreted by the ß cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Insulin is a 51 amino acid polypeptide composed of A and B chains connected through the C-peptide. Insulin promotes glycogen storage, formation of triglycerides and synthesis of protein and nucleic acids. Cross-reaction has been observed with insulin containing cells in fixed sections of pancreas from human.
